Group 8760 LLC has been awarded a contract by GPU Energy, a subsidiary of GPU Inc., to provide an electronic commerce solution for electricity transactions over the Internet.
Pete Byrne, EC/EDI consultant for GPU Energy, said, Group 8760's GISB Agent® product should enable us to fulfill a requirement of the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission for a cost-effective means of sharing information among electricity suppliers, in support of deregulation in Pennsylvania.
GISBAgent® is an electronic delivery mechanism (EDM) for inbound and outbound file transport between trading partners over the Internet and is certified by the Gas Industry Standards Board (GISB).
Byrne, who is also chairman of the Utility Industry Group, noted that this system has proven effective in the gas industry, and we are encouraged about its use in the Pennsylvania electricity market.
Jim Buccigross, vice president of Group 8760's energy practice and chairman of GISB's Executive Committee, said, We're pleased that GPU Energy has chosen GISBAgent® for electronic transactions in the deregulated energy marketplace. It demonstrates the flexibility of GISB's standards and the GISBAgent® solution in accommodating secure, reliable Internet transactions. GPU's choice illustrates the energy industry's continuing confidence in Group 8760's GISB-certified product.
GPU Energy is the third major player in Pennsylvania's deregulated energy market to select a Group 8760 e-commerce software solution. Duquesne Light Company became a Group 8760 client in 1999 and UGI Utilities signed a contract with Group 8760 earlier this year.
