Group 8760 has been awarded a contract from UGI Utilities Inc. to provide an electronic commerce solution for natural gas and electronic transactions over the Internet.
"We're pleased to have Group 8760 provide us with an e-commerce solution that is compliant with GISB (Gas Industry Standards Board) standards," said Tony Cox, Project Manager for UGI Utilities. "Of all the products on the market, we felt that Group 8760's solution is the one most targeted at the energy utility industry and general business requirements."
John Williams, CEO of Group 8760, said, "We're excited about the opportunity to work with UGI Utilities to provide this cutting-edge technology. The recent addition of UGI Corporation to Fortune magazine's list of Most Admired Companies recognizes UGI's reputation for sound business practices."
UGI is the second energy distribution company in Pennsylvania to select a Group 8760 e-commerce software solution. Duquesne Light Company became a Group 8760 client in 1999.
"Group 8760 has participated for several years in the development of e-commerce standards for the energy industry. The arrival of Jim Buccigross, Vice President of Group 8760's Energy practice, is further confirmation of our direction and position in the industry," said Williams. Buccigross is currently serving his second term as chairman of the GISB Executive Committee. Rounding out Group 8760's expertise in the energy field is Chief Technical Officer Dick Brooks, the chair of GISB's electronic delivery mechanism Subcommittee. In addition to his involvement with GISB, Brooks is co-author of the EDI INT AS2 specification, which will provide a broader level of interoperability across multiple industries. This draft standard is currently under evaluation by ebXML, the United Nations/CEFACT-OASIS business to business standards group, as the transport mechanism for sending XML documents via the Internet.
